Millennium Resort Mussanah unites with the world for Earth Hour

Supporting the fight against climate change, Millennium Resort Mussanah commemorated Earth Hour 2016 by switching off all non-essential lights for an hour, uniting with the world in an effort to highlight important environmental issues.  All unnecessary electric tools were also unplugged for the hour, resulting in the resort saving a total of 1360 kilowatts of energy. During long celebration, the resort went a step further and organized a special display of candles to illuminate the beach, the marina, and every outlet in the resort’s interior.

Maurice de Rooij, General Manager of Millennium Resort Mussanah, said, “From the outset, our team has been committed to adopting environmentally-friendly processes, with our dedication to green stewardship spearheading the development of our own building management system to regulate heating, ventilation and air condition to keep energy consumption low. Our efforts extend to water conservation, with best practices employed throughout our establishment with water-saving devices installed in every shower and onsite sewage treatment plants. The results have paid dividends; in 2015 alone we saved 17% of our annual utility budget and this year our target is to conserve even more.” 

Held annually every March 19th, Earth Hour is an event started in Australia to encourage sustainable living and raise awareness on important issues related to sustainability, conservation and the environment. Since its inception in 2007, the grassroots movement has gone global, with more than a hundred million people across 25 time zones and six continents participating last year.
