NBO Celebrates Remarkable Achievements of Omani Women With Line-up of Special Events for Omani Women’s Day

Celebrating the remarkable achievements Omani women have made both in and out of the bank, National Bank of Oman (NBO) marked Omani Women’s Day with a series of exciting events. The highlight was the skill-building course was conducted for ten girls in Jabal Al Akhdar, part of the bank’s Outward Bound Oman partnership and led by programme mentor Intisar Al Bartmani, Section Head - Corporate Credit Administration. In addition, the bank supported the Ministry of Health with a special live event recognising the staff who demonstrated the role of women in the health sector industry and their contribution to the advancement of the nation as a whole.

The bank is always proud to embrace the spirit of the occasion while continuing to shine a light on the progress women have made in the industry and in the country. Year on year, we continue to break boundaries and show the world the tremendous potential of women who are equipped to succeed.”
A long-term proponent for women’s empowerment and equal opportunities, NBO is responsible for a number of firsts for the Sultanate’s banking community, including the first Omani female as Chief Risk Officer and the first female heading an Islamic bank or window. Nurturing a flourishing equal opportunities culture, the bank’s female staff currently stand at 41%, including several in senior management roles.
Latifa Al Gharbi, a Senior Manager in our Central Operations Department said, “We consider ourselves lucky to be among so many examples of positive female leadership. We have been blessed by not only a supportive work environment, but with leaders who have recognised the significant potential of women in promoting our society, while granting us equal rights to do so. Only by acting as one team and by ensuring that all feel empowered can we develop as a bank and as a nation.”
Athari Al Balushi, Branch Manager in the Ibri branch added, “The bank is not only committed to nurturing a culture and work environment that supports women, but we actively strive to support our female customers to be financially empowered. On this day, and on all days, we pledge our support to our sisters, who are the essence of Omani society.”
NBO encourages the enrichment of its female employees with unique initiatives that seek to enhance their skill-sets and raise awareness about the important role of women working across the financial spectrum globally. As part of this commitment it has run various programmes and training sessions to develop females both in and out of the bank, highlighted by the Women@NBO programme, which was launched in 2016.
