Octal raises awareness on hypertension as part of World Health Day initiatives

OCTAL, the world’s leading clear rigid food packaging material supplier, recently organized a 'Check Your Blood Pressure Week’ for employees in Salalah as part of its efforts to support World Health Day. The theme for the 2013 World Health Day was 'High Blood Pressure: Monitor Your Pressure to Protect Your Life and Improve Your Health'; emphasizing the condition as a “silent killer” and a contributing factor to the rise of heart disease across the world. 

The week-long campaign also included distribution of internal circulars to highlight the risks and complications associated with hypertension going undiagnosed and to encourage all OCTAL employees to test their blood pressure levels with continuous monitoring. Also in commemoration of World Health Day, OCTAL supported the event organized by the Ministry of Health, Directorate – General of Health Services (Dhofar), in Salalah under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Saeedi, Minister of Health. 

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that one in every three adults has hypertension and causes include improper diet and lifestyle as well as stress. The Ministry of Health has also been organizing free check-ups and lifestyle counseling at different ministries across the country until June 30^th.
