Oman oil company partners with ‘Klmaten Ras’ to promote culture of reading in oman

In line with the company’s social responsibility programmes, Oman Oil Company (OOC) announced hosting a book sharing campaign for its employees and the public at its headquarters in Muscat. In partnership with ‘Klmaten Ras’, an SME that specialises in commercial and animated films, while raising awareness of social matters through its dedicated YouTube channel, the campaign aims to promote the culture of reading in Oman.
As part of their Public Library Initiative, ‘Klmaten Ras’ set up book shelves at OOC headquarters to encourage employees, as well as the public to share their books. Creating small libraries and offering free access to readers across five locations in Muscat and Salalah to date, ‘Klmaten Ras’ plans to expand to 100 locations by end of 2014. Readers can pick up a book and when finished, return it to any of the library locations.
Mulham Al Jarf, Deputy CEO of OOC was joined by Azzan Al Jardani, Director of ‘Klmaten Ras’ to launch the campaign. The Deputy CEO kicked off the event by sharing a book as part of the company’s collection and said, “‘Klmaten Ras’ Public Library Initiative exemplifies what we aim to achieve, creating a society that initiates, and takes part in its own development. We are empowering our employees to give back to the community. With their active participation in sharing books, we are transforming OOC’s headquarters into the latest ‘Klmaten Ras’ Public Library location,” said Mulham Al Jarf, Deputy CEO of OOC.
“It is inspiring to see our partners’ commitment to reading as a very important activity in today’s information-driven world. Our library features an extraordinary collection of materials that educate the public about a variety of subjects. Every book we receive will help ensure that our collection remains as beneficial and diverse as possible. We started as a young group of people who created the ‘Klmaten Ras’ YouTube channel to raise awareness of various youth social issues. After nearly two years since we started, we are excited to add the Public Library Initiative to our portfolio. We believe the more the number of library locations we add, the more the number of people who will read,” said Qais Al Toubi, Co-Founder of ‘Klmaten Ras’ group.
In addition to OOC’s partnership with ‘Klmaten Ras’, OOC sponsored the inauguration of Klmaten Ras library in Mood Cafe at Madinat Sultan Qaboos, Costa Coffee and other locations.
