Ooredoo connects With Al Noor Association for the Blind
As part of its longstanding commitment to support human growth through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ooredoo launched a number of initiatives to support the visually impaired at the Al Noor Association for the Blind.The company’s efforts included the sponsorship of free English courses for 15 people, a group picnic that welcomed 60 members of the association, and a special celebration honouring them on ‘International White Cane Day’.
Raed Dawood, Director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs at Ooredoo, said, “Our efforts are aimed at highlighting the capabilities of the blind as well as the need for their integration into mainstream society. We believe we can show them they are valued, help them receive a full education, and gain employment. By working with local organisations such as the Al Noor Association for the Blind, we can introduce more visually impaired people to a new world of possibilities, resources and opportunities to increase their independence.”
Volunteers from Ooredoo also wrapped 150 white canes in commemoration of ‘International White Cane Day’. The canes, which are universally recognised symbols for the blind, will be used to help the visually impaired navigate reliably and independently. The commemorative day is observed worldwide to celebrate the transition of blind people from dependency to full participation in society.
Ooredoo itself has two blind family members employed full-time in customer service; fully appreciating their equality and contribution to the company and society as a whole.
