OUR TIES explores an unusual bond between two brothers

While movies frequently revisit the theme of brotherhood, they rarely explore brotherly bonds that might seem contentious or frayed. In fact, in today's hectic world, it's not uncommon for siblings to lose touch for long stretches of time, only reconnecting over phone calls or at special family events.
Roschdy Zem’s latest comedic drama OUR TIES, however, places that connection at its center. In OUR TIES, we get to see two brothers with very very different personalities who form a bond after one of them sustains a brain injury, prompting many viewers to reevaluate the strength of their own bonds with their own siblings.
The film revolves around Moussa, who has always been loving and supportive of his loved ones, and his brother Ryad — a famous TV host who is widely criticized for his egocentricity by those close to him and only defended by Moussa, who looks up to him.
When an accident leaves Moussa with severe brain damage, Ryad begins to spend more time with his brother, who now tends to sleep and forget a lot.
After being accused of being selfish by his family, Ryad, who has always prioritized his career and is struggling to maintain a healthy relationship with his girlfriend, begins to reevaluate his familial ties.
OUR TIES wowed audiences at the Venice International Film Festival during its world premiere with its seamless storytelling and masterful portrayal of a family thrown into disarray. After that, it screened at several prestigious international film festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival and International Mediterranean Film Festival Montpellier (Cinémed).
The film also garnered positive feedback from prominent news outlets such as Variety, which described it as "a heartfelt and beautifully played burst of bright chatter that doesn't reinvent the wheel of the domestic drama, but does watch it turn with an unusually compassionate, affectionate eye."
OUR TIES — which was co-written by French actress Maïwenn, who also stars in the movie — features an award-winning cast that includes Sami Bouajila, Roschdy Zem, Meriem Serbah, and Rachid Bouchareb.
Additionally, Julien Poupard served as its DOP, it was edited by Pierre Deschamps, and it was produced by Laziz Belkaï, with Wild Bunch International managing worldwide sales and MAD Solutions handling distribution in the Arab world.
