PepsiCo-Jordan signs deal with CARE Jordan to fund POWER Project

PepsiCo-Jordan - winner of the 2009 and 2010 King Abdullah II Award for Excellence - signed a grant agreement with CARE Jordan, as part of its efforts to support the Working Women Association in Rsaifeh district, under the Participation of Women in the Economic Sector (POWER) project.
POWER aims to support small businesses and start-ups that are run by disadvantaged women in Rsaifeh district. The agreement was signed by PepsiCo-Jordan's General Manager Ahmed El Sheikh and CARE Jordan’s Country Director Kevin Fitzcharles. The grant commenced on 15th October, 2011, and will continue for six months.
This agreement reflects PepsiCo-Jordan's commitment to positively impacting the local community. It also is part of the Company’s social programs aimed at enhancing the role of women in supporting the local economy through providing them with financial support that enables their small businesses and start-ups to grow and generate profit.
During the signing ceremony held at the Working Women Association’s headquarters, PepsiCo-Jordan’s Human Resources Manager Hawar Hijazi stated that under the agreement, PepsiCo-Jordan is offering POWER JD 10,000 in funding to expand the range of services it provides to disadvantaged women in Rsaifeh district. The project aims to improve work conditions of small businesses and start-ups managed by women through delivering training workshops, guidance and access to funding.
“We are pleased to collaborate with CARE Jordan in supporting small businesses that are run by women as we are firm believers in the dynamic role they play in advancing both the community and the economy. This collaboration emphasizes our interest in supporting small and medium enterprises which greatly contribute to the economy’s wellbeing,” commented Hijazi. “By virtue of this agreement, we hope that our efforts will positively impact start-ups in Rsaifeh district.”
In turn, Fitzcharles thanked PepsiCo-Jordan for supporting POWER and lauded PepsiCo-Jordan’s ongoing efforts in supporting all segments of the local community, and commended the Company for its projects and programs geared towards positively impacting the national economy.
