President and CEO of Axis highlights regional growth and future opportunities in network video

Ray Mauritsson, President and CEO of Axis Communications, highlighted the growth in the regional surveillance market and emphasized the importance of providing innovative solutions for the small business owner as well as large-scale corporations.
In Dubai visiting Axis’ regional headquarters, Mauritsson said: “The Middle East has become one of the fastest growing markets for Axis, with network video surveillance solutions seeing increasingly large-scale deployments. The lower total cost of ownership, integration benefits and enhanced HDTV capabilities are clear advantages that network video has when compared to analog solutions.”
The retail, transportation and oil and gas sectors are major growth areas for Axis in the region, Mauritsson said. The regional security sector is also seeing increased demand, in line with global trends.
Mauritsson said Axis Communications’ long-term strategy for growth was based on three core elements: a strong partner network, a broad and innovative product portfolio, and sustained global expansion.
Axis’ solutions help customers by delivering crystal-clear images, whether real-time or recorded, allowing authorized users access to relevant information anywhere at any time.
“Initially the technology shift to networked video took place in large installations,” Mauritsson continued. “However, there is huge potential for video installations in the ‘low-camera count’ segment. That is why we have launched our entry-level IP video solution for small installations – regionally and around the world – called Axis Camera Companion.”
The new solution allows small business owners to use HDTV network cameras to help them add value to their business as well as identify intruders, shoplifters and other security-related incidents. Video can be viewed live and recordings played back from anywhere – on-site or remotely over the Internet. The system supports motion detection and pan/tilt/zoom control. Video clips and snapshots can be easily exported to colleagues and authorities, and the system supports third-party apps for viewing live and recorded video on leading smartphones and tablets.
Unlike analog surveillance installations, AXIS Camera Companion does not require a central recording device – a digital video recorder (DVR), or even a computer. The cameras are powered over the network, eliminating the need for separate power cables. All images are recorded onto a standard SD memory card in each camera, and even if a network fails, the cameras keep recording. This reduces cost, simplifies installation, and makes the system more robust, as there is no single point of failure. The AXIS Camera Companion has been specifically designed with user-friendly features, allowing for easier and hassle-free adoption of the new technology.
