Qatar National Library and Lekhwiya to Collaborate on Sharing Knowledge and Resources
Qatar National Library (QNL) and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to exchange a range of learning resources and services.
The agreement promotes collaboration between the two organizations in a number of fields, including training programs for researchers and staff, and various awareness programs. It also enables QNL and Lekhwiya to join forces on inter-library loan and document delivery services, and to exchange expertise on library technologies and electronic resources.
Brigadier Fahad Rashed Al-Ali, Director of the Office of Lekhwiya Commander, said: “We are delighted to be signing this agreement with Qatar National Library, which is a beacon of science and knowledge.”
“Our staff will be able to effectively access the various resources at the library. This agreement will help develop the skills and improve the capabilities of members of Lekhwiya, which will be reflected in the successful execution of their duties in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.”
At the MoU signing ceremony, Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Executive Director, QNL, said: “As a national institution, QNL strives to advance knowledge, research, and capacity-building in Qatar across all sectors. We are therefore delighted to be able to collaborate with Lekhwiya and share our technologically-advanced resources, expertise, and services.”
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Mesfer Al Shahwani, Director of Training and Courses Department at Lekhwiya, said: “Qatar National Library has a key role in disseminating knowledge through its array of resources, particularly its one million books and its electronic resources in a number of languages. This partnership will enable our students and trainees to conduct comprehensive and accurate scientific research.”
QNL opened its doors to the public on November 7, 2017, and has since welcomed 265,000 visitors, with 77,000 new members registering to gain full access to the library’s online and physical resources. Additionally, 480,000 books from various subject areas have been borrowed, a testimony to the increasing love for reading and knowledge among the people of Qatar.
QNL hosts a diverse range of events each month, in addition to several permanent exhibitions. To learn more about these, please visit www.qnl.qa/en/events.
