QF’s Doha Debates Honored With Prestiguous Global Awards

Doha Debates kicked off 2022 by garnering nine international honors for its media content — two Realscreen Awards, six IMPACT DOCS Awards, and an Anthem Award. It was one of the few organizations presented with multiple 2022 Realscreen Awards, which celebrate the world’s best on-screen nonfiction and unscripted entertainment content, held on February 11.
The documentary film The Invisibles — which chronicles the fight for better working conditions among migrant laborers in Italy — picked up a win for best short-form nonfiction content, as well as an Award of Excellence for being the highest-scoring submission in the short-form category. Other Realscreen Award honorees included media outlets such as CNN, Fox, HBO, Hulu, NBC, Netflix, Showtime, and YouTube.
Three short documentaries produced by Doha Debates — Into the Sea, Sea Weavers and Exodus — each received two 2022 Awards of Merit from IMPACT DOCS, a competition honoring the achievements of documentary filmmakers striving to ignite social change. Into the Sea follows the turbulent journey of Afghan refugees fleeing violence in their homeland, while Sea Weavers captures a hidden struggle for gender equality waged by female fishing-net weavers in Galicia, Spain.
The third winner, Exodus, jointly produced with Fortify Rights, showcases three young Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh who are using photography to document their lives and the lives of others inside Cox’s Bazar, the world’s largest refugee camp, and sharing their results on Instagram. Doha Debates and Fortify Rights were also presented with a Silver award for Exodus at the inaugural Anthem Awards — which honor remarkable purpose- and mission-driven work — on February 15.
Amjad Atallah, Managing Director of Doha Debates, a member of Qatar Foundation, saluted the honored filmmakers, photographers and producers: “Doha Debates takes great pride in sharing their compelling documentary storytelling with the world. The phenomenal Doha Debates digital team deserves our admiration and gratitude for producing such impressive, award-winning work.”
