QScience.com publishes review on Qatar’s past, present, and future economy

A recent study has shone the spotlight on the historic development of Qatar’s economy, and the potential challenges it may face in the future. Entitled ‘Qatar’s economy: Past, present and future’, the review article was published in QScience Connect, an open access, peer-reviewed journal from QScience.com.

It is the work of Ibrahim Ibrahim, Economic Advisor to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Executive Member of the Supreme Committee for Development Planning, Amiri Diwan, and Frank Harrigan, General Secretariat for Development Planning, Department of Economic Development.

The study details Qatar's economic emergence in chronological order, beginning with the nation's independence in 1971 and concluding with an analysis of the nation’s ongoing steps towards realising a knowledge-based economy.

In a closing section entitled 'Looking Ahead', the review details Qatar's medium and long-term prospects, concluding, "If Qatar can succeed in reshaping incentives, growing the capabilities of its citizens and expanding their horizons, it will measure up to the challenges of the new century, creating a durable legacy for future generations."
