Ramada Ajman GM receives Alleem Excellence Award

Iftikhar Hamdani, General Manager of Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman, was recently honoured in the Alleem Sustainable Development Excellence Awards, in recognition of the hotel’s environmental initiatives.

Hamdani is among the eleven award luminaries and the only recipient in the hospitality sector for the year 2014. The award was presented by Dr. Rashid Alleem, Founder and Executive Chairman of Alleem Business Congress and Hon. Lazaro Nyalandu, MP, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Tanzania.

On receiving the award, Hamdani noted: “We are very honoured to receive another recognition for the hotel’s green efforts. We shall continue with our eco-friendly practices to encourage other organizations, especially in the hospitality field, to take part in projects toward a sustainable future. Ramada Ajman started with a vision, which was translated into actions and positive results because of the dedication and hard work of the entire team in the property.”

The Alleem Sustainable Development Excellence Awards are instituted to acknowledge effective leaders amongst top executive government officials, senior corporate professionals, environmentalist and academicians who have achieved sustained growth setting benchmarks for overall excellence. The parameters will refer to their achievements in the backdrop of economic, social and environmental challenges. The award celebrates leaders who have steered their organizations towards success while adopting sustainable development methods. 

Ramada Hotel and Suites Ajman pioneered a Zero Landfill Project, which reduced the hotel’s waste disposal to landfill by 90%, through recycling and converting its waste into fertilizer. In 2013, the hotel converted a portion of its parking space into an urban farm, which grows seasonal vegetables for its kitchen and restaurant. The hotel is also actively involved in various environmental initiatives including the Go Green Children’s Painting Competition and Beach Clean-up, among others.
