ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality and value-based education, recently welcomed beloved poets Saleha Ghabash and Khamis Al Rumathi who treated professors, students and staff to a recital of their famous literary works.

The renowned literary figures were invited by ALHOSN’s Reading Club. Ghabash, the Cultural Counselor of the Supreme Council of Family Affairs in Sharjah, began with a poem about the homeland. She then delivered her ‘Rubaiyat’ in tribute to Buthaina bint Al Mutamed Ibn Abbad. She recited other signature poems such as ‘For Whom We Smile,’ ‘Thing,’ and ‘Thanks to Us’.

The audience was also charmed by Khamis Al Rumaithi’s poems which expressed the poet’s fondness for the rulers of the Emirates and most especially for the late President, H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His amorous poems touched on memories of youth and took on tones of sadness and yearning for his late wife.

H.E. Khalifa Mohamed Rubaya Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ALHOSN University, attended the event which was opened by ALHOSN Vice Chancellor H.E. Prof. Abdul Rahim Sabouni who thanked Ghabash for bearing the tiring trip from Sharjah. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Hasab Al Nabi, Chair of ALHOSN's Education Department and Supervisor of the Reading Club, moderated the recital. H.E. Al Muhairi and Prof. Sabouni presented the crystal logo of the university to Gabash and  Al Rumaithi at the end of the event.

“There is a misconception that poetry is reserved exclusively for men. This is not true, as women possess a wealth of emotions and excellent command of words which enable them to compose the most expressive poems for all kinds of subjects. While there may be a limited number of poetesses, this can be explained by social and not creative reasons. Fortunately, the forms and types of creativity have become open to men and women alike,” said H.E. Khalifa Mohamed Rubaya Al Muhairi.

ALHOSN University promotes poetry and other forms of art under its philosophy of ‘global knowledge with local vision.’ The university’s Reading Club has been inviting prominent authors, poets and literary figures to emphasize the importance of reading in personal and cultural development.

Named after Abu Dhabi’s historic ALHOSN Palace, ALHOSN University was founded in 2005 by the Abu Dhabi Holding Company in response to growing local demand for high-quality, value-based educational institutions. It currently offers 12 undergraduate and 7 graduate programs under the Faculties of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Business, and Arts and Social Sciences. ALHOSN accepts students of all nationalities and also accommodates youths with special needs. All its programs are accredited by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
