SalamAir Empowers Omani Youth During Session at Modern College of Business and Science

SalamAir Chief Executive Officer, Captain Mohamed Ahmed underscored the myriad of opportunities available for Omani youth to embark on a career in the low-cost carrier industry. Celebrating the 2018 Omani Youth Day, the Captain visited the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS), met with management and faculty, and shared insights with students on the industry and its prospects. Speaking to over 50 students in attendance, the Captain focused on three main topics including the low cost carriers’ history, concept and future, as well as prospects of the aviation industry.

Captain Mohamed Ahmed said, “With the low-cost carrier industry growing in interest and popularity in the Sultanate, It’s our responsibility to provide youth with awareness regarding this robust industry. Events such as this are the perfect platform for engaging in two-way dialogue that will build knowledge on the potential of the sector for Omani youth to lead rewarding careers and contribute to the Sultanate’s economic diversification strategy in general.”

The Captain added, “It is a pleasure to speak with promising young talent, share ideas and collaborate with institutions like the Modern College of Business and Science. At SalamAir, we intend to continue building on our success, broaden our scope of talent-support initiatives that empower Omani youth for an even brighter future.”

An industry veteran with over 30 years of experience, Captain Mohamed Ahmed started his flying career at Oxford Air Training Academy in 1987. Reputed for delivering operational, commercial and financial results in the aviation industry, he is responsible for leading SalamAir through its next phase of development focusing on driving efficiency, performance and customer satisfaction.

“Talent management is vital for long-term success in the rapidly evolving and fast-growing aviation industry,” explained Dr. Dan Wong, Deputy Head of Department – Transport & Logistics and Associate Professor, Business and Economics Department at MCBS. “While academia provides a foundation for students to start their careers, knowledge and experience sharing is paramount to ensure they formulate a better understanding and appreciation of the industry. Captain Mohamed’s insights will definitely help our students forge ahead with confidence and take on leadership roles that will shape the future of the aviation industry in the Sultanate, the GCC region, and worldwide.”

The Modern College of Business and Science is a private college that offers educational programs to meet the needs of individual students as well as the needs of the business and industrial communities. The College offers degrees in Business Administration, Information Technology and Computer Science, as well a Bachelor of Science in both Airport Management and Aviation Management. The latter is a program dedicated to preparing students for jobs in the management of airlines and their operations at airports, ranging from ground operations and passenger services to flight dispatch. Other core elements of the program include terminal management, ramp operations and airline marketing.

SalamAir is a responsible corporate citizen committed to growing a diverse talent pipeline within its growing organization and the business community. In line with its social responsibility and community engagement strategy, the airline also conducts an annual summer internship program, aimed at introducing future-professionals to the ins-and-outs and vast opportunities available in the aviation sector in general and low-cost airlines in particular.
