Samsung doubles its growth within the Fixed Lens Camera Segment
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, today announced it has doubled its growth in the fixed lens camera segment in the first half of 2013. According to market analysis firm GfK, Samsung secured a 19.1 percent market share in the UAE in the fixed camera lens segment for the first half of 2013 and a 100% year-on-year growth in terms of value between the first half 2012 compared to the first half 2013, which is attributed to the launch of smart cameras such as Samsung’s WB250, NX300 and the GALAXY Camera.
With consumer demand for connected devices rising in the region, connected smart cameras are becoming more popular amongst consumers that want to be able to share their visual content with friends and family, instantly. The freedom of 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity is now an everyday necessity and over the past year smart cameras have prompted a new era of visual communications in the Gulf. The launch of the GALAXY Camera in the region last year marked the world’s first connected camera featuring the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system and 3G/ Wi-Fi connectivity.
Mr. Raj Varma, General Manager of IT division Samsung Gulf Electronics commented” This is an exciting time for Samsung as we are experiencing a blurring of lines between devices and an increasing demand for being connected at all times. This in turn is affecting how we communicate, with more emphasis placed on visual communication. Our Smart Cameras are a great example of how consumers can bring together everything that is wonderful about photography, with the ease-of-use of smart phone technology.”
The Samsung GALAXY Camera enables the user to enjoy shooting easy pro-like shots as well as high impact videos whilst instantly sharing them on various online platforms wherever and whenever the consumer wants. The ability to share a picture immediately after it has been taken, has in the past forced consumers to make do with lower spec smart phone cameras, but now the features of a professional camera are available with combined smart technology.
The Samsung NX300 Smart Camera was launched in May of this year and continued to raise the bar for Samsung’s compact system cameras (CSC), delivering an outstanding combination of features, functionality and style for perfect shooting. Complete with Wi-Fi connectivity the camera allows users to share photos instantly between camera and smartphone (or tablet) via the Samsung SMART CAMERA App. The camera is able to detect a smartphone or tablet and connect wirelessly, automatically sending every high-quality photo taken to the connected device for safe keeping.
Similarly the WB250F, which was unveiled in April 2013, boasts Wi-Fi connectivity, activated instantly by a Direct Link hot key. The long zoom camera has an 18x optical zoom, a 14.2 Megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and 24mm lens, making it easy for users to achieve excellent quality snaps.
The Samsung GALAXY Camera (AED 1,999), NX300 (AED 2,699) and WB250F (AED 849) are all available at leading retail stores across the UAE.
