Schneider Electric and GREENER by IHCC have signed a partnership agreement that is set to drive Saudi Arabia’s nascent and fast-growing electric vehicle (EV) sector. The agreement will help both companies tap into the need for e-Mobility and EV charging across the country. GREENER is part of IHCC, a Jeddah-based turnkey solutions provider which specializes in healthcare, education, and mixed-use projects. Schneider Electric is a leader in the provision of electric vehicle charging stations, thanks to its EVLink range of charging solutions which are installed throughout Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia’s electric vehicle sector is fundamental to the country’s Vision 2030 and its focus on a transition to clean, sustainable energy sources. The Kingdom’s electric vehicle growth is expected to be helped by the decision taken last year by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization to allow the imports of commercial EVs and charging stations.

“Electric vehicles are the future of transportation, and Schneider Electric has proven technologies that are already being used across the country,” said Eng. Sultan Sobhi Batterjee, CEO, GREENER by IHCC. “We’re looking forward to tapping into the demand for electric vehicle charging networks throughout the Kingdom’s cities through this partnership with Schneider Electric.”

Schneider Electric’s charging technologies can be found installed in residential, commercial and mixed-use developments throughout a number of major cities. Electric vehicles are also essential to meeting Saudi Arabia’s Green Initiative, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 60% regionwide. Work undertaken by researchers at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center that if 100,000 combustion vehicles were replaced by the same number of EVs, carbon emissions would decrease, on average, by around 0.35%, or 266×103 tons. In addition, if all of the vehicles in Saudi Arabia were to be replaced with EVs, emissions would reduce by half, by 35 million tons.

“Saudi Arabia has forward-thinking plans to adopt clean technologies and solutions, and that includes electric vehicles,” said Mohamed Shaheen, Cluster President Saudi Arabia and Yemen, Schneider Electric. “GREENER by IHCC sees the potential for electric vehicle infrastructure, and we’re delighted that we can partner with them to help Saudi Arabia build a world-class network of chargers that’ll power this transition.”
