Scholarship Success for High-Achieving WCM-Q Alumnus

WCM-Q alumnus Dr. Nigel Pereira has been awarded a prestigious scholarship title in recognition of his excellence in research into the health of children conceived by in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Dr. Pereira, who graduated from Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) in 2010, was named the ‘Tessler Grandchildren Clinical Scholar II’ by the Board of Overseers at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, where he now practices as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Assistant Professor of Reproductive Medicine.
The scholarship appointment recognizes Dr. Pereira’s excellence in research into both the immediate perinatal and long-term health of children conceived by IVF.
Dr. Pereira said: “I have always been interested in studying the safety of IVF and the long-term health of IVF babies. This scholarship provides me an impetus to pursue these ongoing research interests and I am truly humbled and grateful to receive this honor.”
In another recent success, Dr. Pereira was named a ‘Star Reviewer’ for excellence in his work as a peer reviewer for Fertility and Sterility, the official publication of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and one of the most prestigious journals in its field. Dr. Pereira added: “The peer review process helps me refine my own research questions and occasionally presents me with new ideas to explore - I find it very rewarding. Peer review is an integral part of scientific publishing but often goes unnoticed. A good reviewer improves the quality and impact of a manuscript by providing critical feedback about study methodology or data analysis. For these reasons, I'm very honored to be named a Star Reviewer by Fertility and Sterility.”
Dr. Pereira has also been included in the 2021 ‘Super Doctors’ list of elite-level physicians practicing in the United States and was named by the Super Doctors organization as one of New York’s Rising Stars for 2021, honors he was also accorded in 2019 and 2020.
Dr. Javaid Sheikh, Dean of WCM-Q, said: “Dr. Pereira’s outstanding contributions to research into IVF and children’s health reach the very highest standards of excellence and are testament to his unwavering commitment to his work and to his patients. His achievements bring great pride to all of us at WCM-Q and we are extremely happy to see his excellent work receive the recognition it deserves.”
