Sharjah Museums Department organizes blood donation campaign in collaboration with Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Centre

Under the guidance of the recent government wide campaign encouraging blood donation, Sharjah Museums Department in collaboration with the Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Centre organized a blood donation drive at their main offices yesterday morning. SMD's support for this campaign is in keeping with its Social Responsibility initiative "Because We Care".

The blood donation drive received widespread participation from the staff of the Department and its 17 museums. Manal Ataya, SMD Director General, curators of museums and a number of SMD and museums staff were among the donators.

Commenting on the event, Manal Ataya, SMD Director General, said: "The blood donation campaign comes in line with our commitment to support UAE wide initiatives to encourage the public to donate blood for needy patients. This effort is part of our "Because We Care" initiative which raise awareness and involve our staff and the community in areas of our society that need attention and support such as environmental issues, health education, special  needs etc."

"The drive is aimed at encouraging SMD's staff to donate blood for patients who are in urgent need of blood, specifically for Thalassemia patients who need regular blood transfusions, thus requiring us to urge employees and the public to donate blood on a regular basis so as to help the blood transfusion centre and patients as well," she said.

The Department shoulders the responsibility of organizing several projects and programs that benefit the entire community as an integral part of the policy it has adopted since its establishment. It is also keen on taking the initiative of supporting projects in the fields of health, education and environment and all walks of life for the interest of the emirate and the UAE and its people.

SMD thanked the immense efforts of the Center for Blood Transfusion and Research at the Ministry of Health, for making donating blood hassle-free by arriving at their offices in their mobile bus under the name of “Be proud of your blood donation” which was equipped with all facilities to make the process easier for all employees in SMD and all others in the Museums.
