Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has unveiled three family programmes, organized by its Department of Education and Interpretation, as part of its monthly Family Amusement Day for April 2013.The workshops will take place at Sharjah Aquarium, Al Mahatta Museum and Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization.

The first workshop, ‘The Magic of Sea Life’, was delivered at Sharjah Aquarium on Saturday, 6 April. This programme highlighted the importance of conservation of marine life and encouraged younger generations to preserve the UAE’s natural environment.

The participants toured the Aquarium and engaged in a diverse range of activities focusing on the fish species and marine life in the UAE. Families also engaged in discussions on the risks of pollution and how to best minimize it. Finally, the children designed costumes, with their families, inspired by the marine creatures they saw in the tour.

As part of the Family Amusement Day, Al Mahatta Museum will host ‘My Kite’, an event for children aged 3-6 years on Saturday, 13 April. The programme aims to familiarise children with different kinds of kites and their uses, as well as with the classic aircraft in Al Mahatta Museum. The children will make their own art pieces by printing coloured images of planes on paper.

The little ones along with their families will also tour the Aviation Hall and Aircraft Hangar to view the classic aircrafts on display at the museum. The children will be able to board a plane to see it from inside, and enjoy an animated film on kites and a puppet show to teach children how to make a simple kite.

The Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization will host the third programme titled ‘The Beauty of Pottery’ for children aged 7 to 11, on Saturday 20 April.

The workshop will engage the participants in discussions and activities about the production of Islamic pottery. There will also be a short film on making pottery. The children will then make their own pottery designs with their families.
