VMware has released The State of Observability 2022 report, revealing that 70% of companies with mission-critical cloud applications are either evaluating, implementing, or actively using observability tools to monitor cloud application environments. For those actively using the technology, 41% now believe it to be necessary.

Today’s applications are significantly more complex, and organisations are finding it increasingly challenging to monitor cloud application environments – with visibility and insight issues growing from last year. As a result, observability tools seem poised to become an industry standard.

However, this survey of 315 qualified IT and DevOps professionals also found that only 7% of all respondents say they are very satisfied with their current toolset for monitoring. In fact, 38% would prefer to integrate observability tools that are easier to manage. While there’s a need to rationalise and simplify monitoring toolsets, a consensus on the best way to accomplish this hasn’t yet emerged.
