Tanzifco celebrates Global Hand Washing Day with Mafraq Hospital

With the upcoming Global Hand Washing Day (GHWD) on 15^th October, Tanzifco Emirates conducted a Refresher Hand Hygiene Course for all its supervisors and cleaners  providing the cleaning services at the prestigious Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi.

A simple slogan –“Make Bubbles Not Germs” conveyed the absolute magnitude of thoroughly washing one’s hands with soap to wash away germs.

“A healthcare set-up is a highly susceptible area to the spread of contamination from microbial flora. However, maintaining hand hygiene is a cornerstone and one of the standard precautions to prevent cross-infection in a hospital. Our staff at Mafraq Hospital takes responsibility for maintaining a high level of hygiene in the facility and strengthening this old and precious association of almost a decade even further,” says Ali R. Deryan, General Manager, Tanzifco.

Tanzifco’s quality control team spearheaded by the Quality Control & Health Safety Environment Officer, H.M.P. Herath and a highly qualified Training Officer, Marlon Goonetilleke (MBICSc) conducted an intense Hand Hygiene Training Course for its hospital staff on 17^th September 2011, reiterating the steps involved in washing one’s hands systematically and underlining its importance in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in a hospital. This was followed by a focus on Tool Box Training to refresh the key steps in dealing with fire safety, slips and trips, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and protective personal equipment (PPE) including gloves and hand hygiene for the staff till 15^th October 2011.

“Hand hygiene is necessary to stop the spread of germs and Mafraq Hospital expects all its contractors to work with us to practice effective and excellent hand hygiene,” says Helal Al Mansouri, Support Services Manager, Mafraq Hospital.

He added, “As per the Hospital Wide Hand Hygiene Random Audit July 2011 report, Tanzifco workers achieved a score of 100 per cent across all areas, which highlights the training, cleanliness and hygiene of their employees.”

Tanzifco has been providing its services to Mafraq Hospital for almost a decade now with staff strength close to 400.

The UN General Assembly designated 2008 as the International Year of Sanitation and 15^th October as Global Hand Washing Day to reinforce improved hygiene practices.
