Tennis legend Pat Cash to Launch New Year Eve Countdown on Al Maryah Island

Mubadala World Tennis Championship ambassador Pat Cash will officially commence New Year’s Eve countdown proceedings on Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi’s Central Business District at the heart of the capital, by launching an incredible countdown clock at 9pm.

Grand slam winner Pat Cash is spending time in Abu Dhabi ahead of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship which will take place from 1st-3rd January 2015 at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City.

In with the New! Celebrations will start at 6pm on Wednesday 31st December, with live televised broadcasts of the clock turning midnight in capital cities from time zones ahead of the UAE. Visitors are encouraged to make a full evening of it, mixing entertainment, shopping and dining options ranging from 5-star to casual dinners on Al Maryah Island.

The family-friendly event, which is free to enter, will offer visitors to the island an assortment of street performers, live musicians, illusionists, activity zones and jugglers throughout the night, with multiple dining options in both The Galleria and Rosewood Abu Dhabi. The celebrations will culminate with a spectacular fireworks show reflected over water, visible to those gathered along the promenade.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship will open the global tennis season in 2015 on January 1st. Sports fans across the UAE can expect three days of top flight tennis and entertainment in the capital with crowds set to see superstars Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, Feliciano Lopez and Nicolas Almagro light up centre court at the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City. Free to the general public, Al Maryah Island’s New Year’s Eve celebrations will kick-off at 6 p.m. on Al Maryah Island’s Promenade and Sowwah Square. Entertainment on the night will feature performances by Fire Dancers and musical acts including a jazz trio, Arabic pop, rhythm and blues and international hits. Visitors will be virtually connected to festivities from around the world through a live feed. A mix of roaming entertainers will be entertaining the crowds throughout the night on Sowwah Square adding to the atmosphere as people countdown to midnight. The entertainment will be supplemented by Mansour & Friends, engaging the crowds and providing fun for young and old alike.

Activity: Count Down and Fireworks

A unique count down will herald in 2015, culminating with fireworks choreographed to music and set off from the water just in front of Al Maryah Island.

Complementing the celebrations, a holiday festive market featuring authentic holiday kiosks with art and crafts and traditional seasonal food and treats will run until January 5, 2015 along Al Maryah Island’s stunning waterfront promenade. As part of the Festive Market, the Promenade will be filled with a mix of activities and arts and crafts. There will also be additional kids’ entertainment on Sowwah Square including  Wii stations and kids’ activities. Al Maryah Island’s promenade will be magically transformed into a Winter Wonderland, complete with a Gingerbread House and a Snow Ball Park. Rosewood Abu Dhabi is offering visitors the option of indulging in a sumptuous Levantine meal at Sambusek or a true Catalonian meal with Chef Francisco Sanabria at Catalan. Adding to the festive ambiance is Aqua’s offering of an Al Fresco Gala Dinner overlooking Abu Dhabi’s stunning cityscape and culminating at Glo Lounge’s New Year’s Eve countdown.

Almaz by Momo will feature creative dishes in a charming setting with a walk-in shisha lounge throughout the evening and salon seating with reservations, while Emporio Armani Caffè offers a prime view of the Promenade festivities

Bentley Bistro and Bar, welcomes 2015, with a unique music and culinary journey. Oksana and Greg will playfully present new and familiar sounds while Chef Roy and his team will perform through a 5 course luscious and engaging menu.

Guests dining at Zuma Abu Dhabi will be treated to a grand display of fireworks and the evening’s entertainment will be courtesy of our resident DJ Margo Sahara, ensuring a night to remember.

The Galleria Dining Terrace will offer a selection of eateries with a mix of cuisine from around the world from tasty treats to healthy snacks, served throughout the evening in a casual and relaxed setting.
