The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry honoured 16 companies for their corporate social responsibility and sustainability efforts during a recognition ceremony held at its premises on Monday.

The Dubai Chamber CSR Label was presented for the first time to Amlak Finance, Corporate Business Services, Dulsco, Econosto Mideast BV, International Modern Hospital, Time Hotels, and Union National Bank, while Horeca Trade received it for the second time.

Apparel Group, Chalhoub Group, Enova, Paramount Computer Systems

Union Cooperative Society, have achieved it for the third time, while Emirates Gas, Intercoil International and Mashreq received it for the fifth time running since the inception of the CSR Label five years ago.

Congratulating the honourees for their achievement, H.E. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said: “It has been five years since the Dubai Chamber CSR Label was first introduced to the UAE business community as part of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s continuous efforts in promoting CSR and raising the bar for responsible business practices.

“Today we are delighted to be rewarding 16 companies, especially three for the fifth time which is quite an achievement and shows the rising interest of the business community in applying CSR best practices in their work environment.

“The success of the initiative is very encouraging as is evident from the increased number of honourees, many of whom are coming back for the second, third, fourth and even fifth time to receive their due recognition for leading the field in CSR and sustainability,” said H.E. Buamim.

He added, “Since its launch, 17 awarding ceremonies have been held in which 168 Labels have been awarded to companies from various sectors and sizes including multinationals. As for the model itself there are more than 1,800 companies that are using it as a diagnostic framework and a CSR and sustainability management tool.”

The President and CEO of Dubai Chamber informed that the Chamber foresees a very bright future for CSR due to the shift in the approach of many companies towards responsible business, which was earlier confined to tree-planting or cheque writing for charities.

“Recently, due to the Dubai Chamber Centre for Responsible Business efforts, CSR has evolved to take more dimensions, such as corporate responsibility (behaving responsibly towards community and the environment), corporate citizenship (creating value for stakeholders) and most recently corporate sustainability,” he said.

On their part, the honourees lauded the role of Dubai Chamber in allowing them a framework to define and improve their corporate social responsibility performance as well as the opportunity to promote their activities, and to enhance their reputation as leaders in achieving sustainability.

The CSR Label is open to all organisations, private or public, regardless of their size, sector or operations and can make a major difference to a company’s reputation, efficiency and productivity and its success depends on how the CSR objectives are set and communicated to all of their stakeholders.
