TRA holds bilateral meetings with key international dignitaries participating in the 3rd Government summit

The higher management at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), represented by H.E. Mohamad Ahmad Al Qemzi, TRA Chairman and H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, held several bilateral meetings with international dignitaries including H.E. Dr. Atef Helmy, Egypt Minister of Communications and Information Technology and H.E. Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary-General. These meetings were held on the sidelines of the third edition of the Government Summit which concluded its activities today in Dubai.
The meeting with the ITU Secretary General discussed several topics including future cooperation between the United Arab Emirates represented by the TRA and its support and contribution to the Union’s efforts to reinforce its position as a leading international organization on the global ICT stage. The meeting agenda also included global topics of great significance on the international arena including cyber security, internet international policies, smart applications and other important issues related to the pivotal role played by the TRA in this area. Moreover, the meeting covered ways of cooperation for the next phase and efforts aimed at further strengthening the UAE’s role in the organization.
"The United Arab Emirates represented by TRA is one of the strongest supporters of ITU efforts and initiatives in all fields. This comes as result of our firm commitment towards strengthening the position of this prestigious international organization which is the oldest organization in the world. The TRA also chairs the ITU Council Committee responsible to organize the ITU’s 150th Anniversary celebrations as well as ITU preparations for the next edition of the Plenipotentiary Conference 2018,” commented H.E. Mohamad Ahmad Al Qemzi.
At the end of the meeting, H.E. Al Qemzi confirmed the keenness of the UAE represented by the TRA to support the activities, events, programs and studies carried out by the ITU at all levels.
Moreover, discussions with Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology were focused on many issues related to the Internet usage and communication networks status in both countries, including social networking channels, smart applications, and cyber security in addition to developing a regulatory framework to organize using social media websites through cooperation with the UAE and GCC countries. The meeting also discussed training and employment opportunities and promoting Egyptian companies and products in the UAE in addition to tackling ways of mutual coordination and cooperation in international forums.
“We emphasize the depth relations and strategic cooperation and coordination with the Republic of Egypt. The ongoing exchange of knowledge and expertise in ICT serves as a key pillar for boosting the economic relations between the two countries. Our cooperation efforts with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Egypt are crucial and come within the framework of the UAE leadership’s vision directed towards strengthening mutual coordination with all ministries and government entities in Egypt,” commented H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori.
These continuous meetings with senior figures at the international and regional levels reflect the unique position occupied by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority on the ICT global map, which was achieved by the success of the UAE in hosting a number of the most important international conferences and forums organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This position is further boosted by the UAE’s winning membership of the ITU Council for the third time in a row as well as being elected for the first time for the membership of the Radio Regulations Board which comprises 12 members representing 193 countries worldwide.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was established according to the UAE Federal Law by Decree No. 3 of 2003 – Telecom Law, on regulating the telecommunications sector in the UAE.
