TRA organizes a blood donation campaign for Thalassemia patients

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) organized a blood donation campaign for Thalassemia patients held at the TRA building in Dubai on Monday 26th of March 2012, from 8 AM to 3 PM. The campaign embodies TRA’s commitment to the society of the United Arab Emirates;the TRA considers this responsibility a major part of its role. High-ranking officials joined the campaign in addition to TRA employees and Laboratory Management and Genetics Department in Health Directorate of Dubai.
H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, the TRA Director General, said: “The TRA is thoroughlycommitted to social causes that benefit the UAE society. As a result, the TRA has woven a social responsibility strategy into its overall core objectives enabling the authority to cover a wide scope of contributions into social fields where a significant difference can be achieved improving the lives of senior citizens, patients, and the deprived members of the community. We organized the blood donation campaign for those who need the most support in this regard- Thalassemia patients; high-ranking officials participated in the blood donation.”
He added: “Our activities in the field of social responsibility include organizing visits to nursing homes, our contribution to the‘Echo of Silence’ project, in addition to manyother projects.”
Specialized medical staff supervised the blood donation process to ensure proper implementation in accordance with international standards and the safety of the donors. Medical tests that includedthe measurement of hemoglobin to determine if the person is qualified to donate were conducted on the participating individuals before carrying out the blood donation. A single-use sterilized needlewas used on each donor to prevent the spreading of disease; the used needles were then disposed of in a proper manner.
The TRA employees who participated in the campaign expressed their happiness pointing out that their participation does not only come from the sense of social responsibility, but also from a personal motivation and sense of loyalty to the UAE. They hoped that their donation will enablerecovery and hope to Thalassemia patients who are being treated.
Doctors supervising the event extended their appreciation and thanks to TRA employees who expressedtheir desireto donate illustratingtheir commitment to society and the needy. Blood units were transferred to centers treating Thalassemia patients who will benefit from the blood components they need.
Notably, the TRA’s CSR programs cover a wide range of themes from the environment, to encouraging innovation in the ICT sector; supporting long-life learning in ICT and sciences; availing the latest technologies to support individuals with special needs; and supporting arts thatserve cultural and humanitarian values.
