University of Dubai calls for research driven approach to sustainable development

Effective application of research is a key step towards achieving sustainable development of the country, said Dr. Eesa M. Bastaki, President of University of Dubai. Addressing the annual Ph.D. dinner organised by the university at its new campus in Academic City, Dr. Bastaki called for focused efforts to channel research initiatives to enhance the country’s position not only at the regional level but in the international arena.

The annual Ph.D. dinner showcased the University of Dubai’s commitment towards providing world-class research-based education in the UAE. Focusing on the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to mark 2016 as the Year of Reading, the event highlighted the importance of research to better serve the country, supporting innovation and creativity, and developing growth opportunities in a highly competitive environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ananth Rao Director of the Ph.D. Program at University of Dubai, stated that commitment to Ph.D. programme must lead to the service of the community.

Dr. Ahmad bin Hassan Al Shaikh, Chairman of Ducab, said the country needs top Ph.D. researchers who can make a difference in advancing the UAE’s agenda on innovation and leadership.

University of Dubai is one of the few universities in the UAE to acquire the prestigious AACSB accreditation for its commitment towards providing world-class education. The university’s new campus has a Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, enabling research to incorporate innovation and creativity.

The University of Dubai Ph.D. programme is designed to meet the country’s goals on enhanced economic development. The Ph.D. programme offered by University of Dubai aims to serve people’ needs and mould the future in alignment with the vision of the UAE leadership.
