Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the University of Dubai (UD) will hold its 10th graduation ceremony, marking the university’s largest graduation to date since it was founded in 1997 by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The event will take place on May 23 at 4:30 p.m. at Sheikh Rashid Hall at the World Trade Centre.

A total of 228 students will be graduating, which includes UD’s first ever batch of Master-Degree graduates. UD’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program which began in 2010 will see its first class of 38 walk across the stage and accept their diplomas.

Dr. Omar Hefni, UD President, said: “This is an especially momentous celebration because UD is reaching several milestones. This ceremony marks a decade now that we have been sending dedicated, hardworking individuals into the workforce – a decade that we have been helping to improve the quality of business and computing industries in the UAE and around the world by producing well-educated, capable individuals.”

He added: “We will be celebrating our first batch of MBA graduates at this year’s graduation. Many of these 38 graduates have been working hard, balancing both their professional and academic careers and it gives me great pride to see them reach this important step in their life. And, one of the sincerest testaments to our institution is that many of those receiving their MBA diplomas actually came directly from UD’s undergraduate program. It goes to show you that when you do something right and stay committed to the absolute best, others will reward you with their commitment and give you their best!”

The University of Dubai is licensed and accredited nationally by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and it became the first private university in Dubai to hold the AACSB international accreditation in 2009 and the first in the UAE to hold the ABET/CAC accreditation for its Information Systems program in 2006. The AACSB accreditation makes the University of Dubai part of a group in which only 5% of the world's business schools are members, including such American institutions as Harvard and Stanford.

The University of Dubai is known for its challenging curriculum, close ties to the business community and the high quality of graduates it produces. Its students graduate from the university and often enter elite organizations in the fields of business and computing, such as KPMG, Ernst & Young, Citigroup, Oracle and IBM.

While the university has been recognized as a high-caliber institution in the UAE for some time, it has recently gained recognition outside the region. In December of 2011, it was named “The Most Innovative Business School in the Middle East” by European CEO Magazine. Its MBA program was recently given a tier-one ranking by CEO Magazine based in London, published by the International Graduated Forum. The International Graduate Forum’s CEO, Victor Callender, said it is rare for a program to receive the tier-one ranking on its first time of review, especially one so new. In addition to its MBA program, the University of Dubai begins a new Master of Science degree with a concentration in Information Systems this fall, and will launch a PhD program in Business Administration in 2014.
