Volkswagen Middle East has appointed Desmond Van Den Berg as after sales director, to further develop and enhance the brand’s position as the industry continues its shift towards autonomous driving and vehicle electrification.

Van Den Berg brings 20 years’ experience in the automotive industry to his role.

Prior to joining Volkswagen Middle East, Van Den Berg lead the after sales operations for the brand in Saudi Arabia. He has worked with the Volkswagen Group for over 10 years, initially joining the team in South Africa in 2007, where he was responsible for after sales of over 22 African importers.

“The after sales business is under-going rapid change; the traditional business operations that existed as recently as five years ago are now digitalized, transparent and require an agile business model with a customer-centric focus. I look forward to working towards preparing the Volkswagen brand in the region for a smooth transition and a strategic focus on customer centricity with the onset of electrification and autonomous driving,” Van Den Berg said.

Commenting on the new appointment, Andrew Savvas, brand director of Volkswagen Middle East, said: “The market is a competitive place, however, with our long-standing retail partners in the region, our internationally trained technical teams, and Desmond’s experience in the field, I am confident in our ability to adapt and stay ahead of the changing technologies to support our customers in the region.”  

Van Den Berg holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering and a Degree in Business Management from the University of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
