W Doha holds ‘heart-felt’ art competition

W Hotel, style icon for Doha, has given whole-hearted support to World Heart Day 2011 this year by holding an art contest amongst its Talents.  Known to be exceptionally creative and artistic, the Talents submitted their works of art and these were judged on 29th September, the date of World Heart Day.  

This year’s theme is ‘One World, One Home, One Heart’ and W Doha Talents were asked to draw and interpret this theme in their paintings.  Special prizes were awarded to the winners on the day and their works of art will be exhibited in the Green Room and New Escape Training Room at the hotel. 

Activities that the Talents have organized in support of World Heart Day include a Walk through the Corniche with Dominic from W Doha’s Sweat gym doing aerobic exercise with them which will start at 6pm and finish at 8pm. In addition during the last week of September, from 24th – 30th, there will a ‘healthy food only’ menu in the Talents’ Green Room like salads, grilled items and fish dishes - no junk food to be served.  For the past two weeks ‘Heart Awareness’ slides about heart topics have been shown to Talents in the Green Room to ensure they are up to speed with healthy eating and exercise habits.

Risk factors for heart disease and stroke are well known and those who suffer from these should take care. They include raised blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, obesity and physical inactivity.
