WCM-Q wins prestigious international edtech award

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WMC-Q) has won a prestigious ASPIRE award in recognition of institutional excellence in the field of technology enhanced learning.

The award – called the Certificate of Merit in Technology Enhanced Learning – was given to WCM-Q by the ASPIRE Academy, which is part of the AMEE, recognized as the world’s leading international association for health professions education. This year’s certificates will be presented at the AMEE Conference 2026 in Vienna.

WCM-Q was awarded the certificate after the ASPIRE Board concluded that the college demonstrates excellence in several areas of Technology Enhanced Learning and reflects a substantial institutional commitment to innovation, digital transformation, and educational quality. The award recognizes effective use of educational technologies that are grounded in sound pedagogy, enhance teaching and learning experiences, and demonstrate clear educational value and impact.

Dr. Douglas Bovell, adjunct professor of systems and computational biomedicine, said: “We are really thrilled to receive this prestigious award. Our philosophy at WCM-Q has always been to embrace the implementation of innovative learning where we can demonstrate that they truly enhance educational outcomes, so it is very encouraging to receive recognition in this way. We believe it is essential to equip our students with both technical expertise and an ability to adapt to the changing technological landscape so that they can thrive in their careers as physicians.”

Dr. Arayssi professor of clinical medicine & vice dean for academic and curricular affairs said: “It is hugely pleasing to receive official recognition for our technology enhanced learning initiatives from such an esteemed international body as the AMEE, through its prestigious ASPIRE Academy Awards. I would like to thank my WCM-Q colleagues who are absolutely dedicated to rigorously testing and integrating new learning technologies for the benefit of our students, which has made this award possible.”
