Welsh Trade Delegation Attends Virtual ADIPEC 2020
Snowdonia National Park in Wales.
Highlights
Twenty-three Welsh companies from the manufacturing, energy, engineering and oil and gas sectors joined the conference between 9-12 November

As part of its efforts to strengthen ties and forge new trade links with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and wider region, the Welsh Government will be supporting twenty-three businesses during a four day virtual trade mission this month.

The businesses, from Wales’ manufacturing, energy and engineering sectors will be attending the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) 2020 to network, exchange knowledge and develop their trading relationships with companies in the UAE and beyond.

As a response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the conference is taking place virtually between November 9-12, with twenty-three Welsh businesses exhibiting across the four days. The ADIPEC platform will give the companies the opportunity to reach over 10,000+ attendees from over 100 international markets and the theme for this year is energy transition.

Wales has a long-standing relationship with the UAE, with a Welsh Government presence in the country since 2004, when it opened a permanent office at the British Embassy in Dubai. The office is responsible for promoting Wales and representing the nation’s trade interests in the UAE and across the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The importance of the MENA Office’s operation is clearly reflected by the high value of Welsh exports to the markets it oversees. Between 2013 and 2019, exports of goods from Wales to the region reached a cumulative total of £6.7 billion, while the UAE is the eighth largest global export market for Wales.

Around 58,000 people work in the energy and environment sectors in Wales, generating over £4.8 billion in revenue. Rapid innovation is taking place in areas of marine energy initiatives and low carbon projects. Utility companies are investing in sustainable energy sources and the deep sea ports of Wales are equipped to support renewable projects. The nation is working to eliminate landfill by 2050 and Welsh Government has pledged to make the country a low carbon economy.
