Artists based in Qatar are now being invited to submit concepts that both demonstrate creativity and highlight WISH’s healthcare focus.

The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), an initiative of Qatar Foundation (QF), is inviting local artists to devise a large-scale centerpiece for the main exhibition hall - the ‘Innovation Hub’ - at its next global summit, taking place at Qatar National Convention Centre on November 13-14.

This year’s summit, WISH 2018, will feature a wide range of healthcare-related talks and panel discussions, as well as offering healthcare innovators from Qatar and around the world the opportunity to showcase their ideas and products within the ‘Innovation Hub’.

Artists based in Qatar are now being invited to submit concepts that both demonstrate creativity and highlight WISH’s healthcare focus. WISH 2018 organizers will develop the winning idea into a large-scale installation that will be prominently positioned within the ‘Innovation Hub’, to make it visible throughout.

The final structure can be made of wood or metal, and either painted or covered in fabric. It should be a maximum of four meters high, have a diameter of three meters, and can be self-standing or suspended from the ceiling. There is also the opportunity for other elements, such as TV screens or LED lights, to be included.

Artists wishing to enter the competition can either provide a drawing of their concept or create a small model. There are three suggested themes for the centerpiece – a globe of the world; the concept of ‘One Community’; and the structure of DNA – but WISH 2018 organizers are open to considering submissions based on other health-related ideas.

Aljawhra Al Mana, Communications Officer at WISH, said: “We very much want to engage the local community with WISH, which is why we are keen to hear from people who are interested in providing a concept for the centerpiece of our ‘Innovation Hub’ and showcase their artistry.

“The inspirational piece of art or installation should provide a fitting focus for a room that is at the heart of our global summit of healthcare leaders.”

The closing date for entries is Sunday, September 2, and more details - including artist’s impressions of the ‘Innovation Hub’ - can be found at www.wish.org.qa/wish-competition.

The November summit will be the fourth edition of WISH, and is expected to attract around 2,000 delegates from more than 100 countries, including more than 30 health ministers. Delegates are set the challenge of working together as one community to use innovation to overcome some of the world’s most urgent healthcare issues.
