World Food Day: Cultivating a culture of giving

Highlights
“Foreign aid and assistance is one of the basic pillars of our foreign policy.

“Foreign aid and assistance is one of the basic pillars of our foreign policy. For we believe that there is no true benefit for us from the wealth that we have unless it does not also reach those in need, wherever they may be, and regardless of their nationality or beliefs.” – the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Collective action across 150 countries worldwide is what makes World Food Day one of the most notable days on the UN calendar. Hundreds of events and outreach activities are bringing together governments, businesses, CSOs, and the public to promote awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger globally — no one should be left behind, especially as almost 40% of the world’s population (3.1 billion people) cannot afford a healthy diet.

For its part, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has continuously sought to contribute to achieving the second sustainable development goal — ending world hunger — in addition to supporting the ‘1 Billion Meals’ campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum via its annual Ramadan Heroes campaign, which is part of the Authority’s humanitarian corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at promoting the spirit and value of giving.

Food is a cultural representation reflected through those who prepare it, those who offer it, and those who benefit from it. May World Food Day 2022 fulfil its objectives and bring us closer to a future where we are nurtured in heart, soul, and nourishment.
