A public tender will be published next week for local companies to bid on installing 30,000 electricity meters in Egypt. The meters will be the first in the country to be capable of reading electric consumption from a distance, reported Al-Ahram. The name of the winning company will be declared by March 2002. The meters are 100 percent locally manufactured, based on a statement by the Minister of Electricity, Hassan Younes. In addition, prepaid electricity consumption cards will be available at tourism resorts. — (menareport.com)
