The board of directors of Qatar's General Corporation for Tourism (GCT) has held its first meeting, under the chairmanship of Shaikh Sultan bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al Thani.
Speaking to the Qatar news agency, QNA, after the meeting, Shaikh Sultan said that the participants at the meeting had discussed new ideas aims at nurturing the number of tourists arriving in Qatar. The board also made a number of decisions regarding the new organization’s operation and structure, both from an administrative and financial perspective.
GCT was established by Emiri decree, with the support of the Emir of Qatar, Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani. Its task is to boost, improve and revitalize tourism in the country.
Shaikh Sultan emphasized the role played by both government and the private sectors in developing tourism. He explained that the objectives of the GCT include issuing of tourism licenses, and supervising companies involved in tourism including hotels and tourist offices. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
