Qatar Airways secured a $44.5-million loan from Qatar National Bank on Sunday, March 25, to partially finance the purchase of two Airbus 300s, the official QNA news agency reported.
The deal was signed by the airline's president, Akbar Al-Baqer, and John Finigan, general manager of the gas-rich emirate's largest bank.
Baqer said the two planes built by the European consortium Airbus are being purchased as part of plans to enlarge the carrier's current fleet of nine aircrafts to 28 by 2007.
Qatar Airways ordered the A300s in 1998 together with 11 A320s for a cost of $550 million. — (AFP, Doha)
