Qatar to Build 45 Schools With QR4 Billion Worth of Investments

Qatar on Monday unveiled public-private partnership (PPP) school programme to build and operate 45 public schools across the country within five years. 

Participated by a large number of local and international investors, the approved projects include design, construction, finance, operation, maintenance of buildings and transfer of ownership of all schools will cost around QR4 billion.

The PPP structure for schools in Qatar will follow the successful international PPP school model prevalent in the UK and Australia.

The announcement was made during a workshop on ‘Qatar PPP Schools Programme’ organised by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

Head of Technical Committee for the Encouragement and Participation of the Private Sector in Economic Development Projects Khamis al Mohannadi, who formally launched the projects in front of the investors, said the projects will be divided into 6 investment packages and will be offered to the private sector at successive intervals. 

The first package, consisting of eight schools, will be launched in the first quarter of this year. Plot of lands for all the eight schools in the first package have been allocated and cleared.
