The recent Qatari Cabinet decision restricting property owners not to hike rents by over 10 per cent annually, has added to the woes of tenants rather than providing them relief, a majority of respondents to a survey conducted by Al Sharq newspaper has indicated.
After the Cabinet came out with the above decision, a number of landlords who had no intention of raising rents, went ahead and raise the rental fees. Additionally, many property owners who had already increased rents, raised them again once the Cabinet ruling was issued.
