Sharq Village & Spa, managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, opens in Doha, Qatar, late 2006. The design of the 174 rooms and suites, with intimate courtyard settings, reflects 6,000 years of Qatari heritage and tradition. The waterfront property will be unique in The Middle East for its authentic recreation of life in an ancient desert village, including a 71,500 square foot Six Senses spa in the style of a Qatari souq or bazaar.

"Qatar is well known for its impressive buildings with contemporary architecture. In a novel contrast, Sharq Village & Spa will stand out as a memorable experience for visitors seeking a destination resort with an exceptional "sense of place" and historic accents," said Simon F. Cooper, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. This will be the second Ritz-Carlton property in Doha, Qatar.

Visitors exploring the streets and lanes of Sharq Village & Spa will be transported in time to an era when traders and craftsmen shaped their own lifestyle and traditions. Roaming entertainers playing Arabian music, performing colorful folk dances, creating intricate weaving, and reciting inspirational poetry will add flavor to the guest experience and memories. Fishermen and pearl divers will display the skills of their ancestors along the expansive beachfront of the resort. The Six Senses Spa, housed in a recreated souq atmosphere, will include a choice of treatment rooms and a menu of services inspired by centuries old recipes of fragrant oils and exotic spices.

Recreational features at Sharq Village & Spa also include two swimming pools and the close proximity of championship caliber golf course.

In addition, the resort will be fully equipped to meet the needs and expectations of today's business traveler.
