A QR860 million deal was recently signed between the developers of The Pearl-Qatar real estate project, United Development Company, (UDC), and Qatar Cool for the design, construction and operation of a district cooling system.
The new system will serve the man-made Pearl Qatar island, expected to house some 40,000 residents upon completion, according to Khaleej Times.
Qatar Cool has agreed to provide the development with 120,000 tons of refrigeration (TR) through district cooling for The Pearl-Qatar for the project. The cooling facilities are expected to be the world’s largest single district cooling plant ever constructed.
“This is a very thrilling day for all of us at UDC, Qatar Cool and The Pearl-Qatar,” said Omar Alfardan, Chairman of Qatar Cool and Board member of UDC. “It is truly a win-win situation for all, as residents of The Pearl-Qatar will benefit from energy efficient air conditioning, but more importantly, the environment is a winner as we create a cleaner tomorrow," he added.
