Qtel has announced that it had connected its 800,000 customer to its GSM network. In a special ceremony held at the Qtel Tower at West Bay, the lucky customer Mr Essa Sultan Al-Sulaiti was presented with a 3G handset and a free GSM postpaid subscription valid for a year. Qtel also released a special number to the lucky customer to commemorate the occasion.
During the event, Qtel also recognized the efforts made by the Wireless and Customer Service staff for the successful execution of the recent Hala promotion, making it one of the fastest selling Qtel products in the first four months of this year.
Sheikh Fahad Bin Jassim Al Thani, Executive Director for Wireless Services, said, “The recent spate of promotions have been instrumental in boosting our GSM customer base in Qatar. Our records now show that we have a total GSM penetration of over 95 per cent of the population.”
This comes in the wake of the recent GSM postpaid promotion by Qtel where customers who signed up for new connections during the period were not only provided free connections but also received free MMS usage for 40 days.
During the promotion, not just new customers but also existing postpaid customers who needed an extra postpaid line for either work or personal use, applied for the service. Postpaid customers can enjoy of all Value Added Services like SMS, MMS, Voicemail,
Mobinet (internet browsing), Freedom portal access (ring tones, java games, pictures), IDD and GSM roaming with 186 operators across 91 countries.
Under Qtel’s new billing system, GSM Postpaid customers can subscribe to the service without the backing of a guarantor, and will not be charged deposit and the advance payment normally required for the service.
Sheikh Fahad added, ”Both our prepaid and postpaid customers enjoy what is undoubtedly amongst the best services in the region. At Qtel, we are committed to continue ways to reward our customers with new offers and promotions that add value to our Wireless services.”
