The arrival of the holy month of Ramadan has partially compensated the local sheep and meat sellers, who have recently incurred substantial losses because of the rift valley fever disease spread in various regions of Saudi Arabia.
According to Al-Hayat newspaper, the local meat and sheep sales collapsed dramatically a few weeks ago because of the Saudi consumers’ fear of the disease. However, these sales grew by nearly 90 percent in the first week of Ramadan.
Saudis are expected to consume 50 million Saudi riyals ($13.3 million) worth of meat in Ramadan. As a result, during Ramadan the per head price of sheep rose by SR 100 to SR 150. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
