A Ritz-Carlton Hotel will be opening in the Qatari capital of Doha this coming September, reported Al-Hayat daily. The company CEO Simon Cooper stated that the new resort, located along the Arabian Gulf coast, aims to strengthen Ritz-Carlton’s presence in the Middle East region.

Situated in the West Bay lagoon district, the new site includes 374 rooms and 61 luxury suites, as well as a large convention hall and various other leisure facilities. The construction of the hotel is a welcomed addition to Qatar, set to host the World Trade Organization (WTO) conference in November 2001.

No more than a dozen hotels currently operate in the small, conservative Gulf emirate, the largest of has been set to host the WTO conference and a press center in the upcoming international event.

Due to the shortage in accommodation facilities, the Qatari authorities have decided to lodge some participants in private villas. The Qatar exhibitions center will be reserved for non-governmental organizations (NGO) representatives, stated the event organizers.
