Official statistics reveal that the number of factories operating under legal permits in the Riyadh industrial area grew to 1,045 over the last year, up from a total of 990 in 1999.
The capital invested in these plants rose accordingly, from 27.6 billion Saudi riyals ($7.36 billion) in 1999, to SR 28.5 billion during the year 2000, reported Al-Hayat daily.
These figures reflect a growth rate of 5.5 percent in the number of factories and a 3.1 percent increase in capital.
Riyadh is the location for more that 35 percent of all Saudi factories, most of which produce chemical, plastic and metal products. ― (MENA Report)
