In separate meetings, representatives of Russia and Oman said their countries have no intention to join OPEC. Both countries are attending the OPEC II Summit as observers.

Alexander Gavrim, Energy Minister of Russia, said that his country is not considering the possibility of joining OPEC formally. 'the relationship between Russia and OPEC is based on mutual respect, cooperation and understanding. Our collaboration is not only with OPEC countries, but with other oil producers as well', said Gavrim.

Gavrim informed that Russia will take this opportunity to open possibilities of cooperation with Venezuela through their respective state oil companies.

Similarly, Oman Oil and Gas Minister Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Rumhy, discarded the possibility of Oman joining OPEC. He assured that his country has backed OPEC policies through the support of all of its work. 'Cooperation with OPEC is more important than joining', said Al-Rumhy.
