ALBAWABA – Samsung, the South Korean multinational manufacturer, is set to launch its extended reality (XR) headset this year, directly competing with Apple’s Vision Pro.
Samsung is set to launch its new XR headset in 2025
According to a Samsung spokesperson, the company is set to launch its entirely new extended reality (XR) headset this year.
The device, designed to advance the future of AI, augmented reality, and virtual reality applications on headsets and smart glasses, will directly compete with Apple’s Vision Pro, the company’s first spatial computer.
Notably, Samsung first introduced its new device in 2024 and tested it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but the official launch will take place later this year.
The new extended reality (XR) headset, also referred to as Project Moohan, is set to compete strongly with Apple’s Vision Pro, which costs approximately $3,500 and was launched by Apple in 2024.
Samsung XR headset
The new extended reality (XR) headset aims to provide users with a distinct experience between the digital and real worlds. According to sources, the device will feature four cameras on the front of the headset and touch controls on the sides to allow gesture control.
The device will operate through a system called the Android XR platform, developed by Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google.
Additionally, Samsung stated previously that users can install Google Gemini, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by Google, on the XR headset to easily navigate between applications and enjoy a well-developed AI experience.
Patrick Chomet, executive vice president at Samsung’s mobile division, told CNBC: “To me, the breakthrough technology is a combination of advanced vision capability with intelligence that understands user intention. I think without the intelligence part, it’s a defective product.”
