The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was ranked in the 38th position on the 2007 Ease of Doing Business Index, which is issued by the World Bank's International Finance Corporation's (IFC). This is the Kingdom's same ranking from the previous year. Thus, Saudi Arabia has maintained its top position as a country for doing business in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This is despite substantially increased competition from both previously ranked countries and 20 new rivals.
According to Al-Khaleej newspaper, the Kingdom was ranked 6th on the "Paying Taxes" Index. This makes the local tax regime one of the most competitive in the world. The total tax a company is required to pay on its gross profit is as low as 14.9 per cent.
