More than 290 animals died of the foot-and-mouth disease in Saudi Arabia and 1,845 head of cattle have been infected by the pandemic, the agriculture ministry said Tuesday, April 24, in Riyadh.
"1,607 sheep and 238 cows are infected by foot-and-mouth, while 291 animals died of the disease", said a ministry statement quoted by the official SPA agency.
The ministry said that "out of 58 infected herds in various parts of the kingdom, 15 had been healed" by the ministry's veterinarians.
On April 3, the government had announced that 3,800 cases of foot-and-mouth disease had been detected in 67 sites. — (AFP, Riyadh)
