Saudi Arabia has called on countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council to draft a unified industrial strategy that would also take into consideration the needs of each state, a Saudi minister said.
Saudi minister of electricity and industry, Hashem Yammani said a unified strategy would increase industry contribution to the gross domestic product of member states. At present, industry contributes 9.5 percent of the gross domestic product of Saudi Arabia.
"
A unified strategy will also prepare the industry sectors of member states for the requirements of the World Trade Organization and the strong competition from advanced industrial companies," Yammai told reports in Saudi Arabia.
Yammai said the specialized apparatus in each of the member states would hold workshops to discuss the plan. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
