Saudi Arabia is to build a network of railway lines linking the east and west of the kingdom, a Saudi transport minister said Wednesday.
Saudi Transportation Minister, Nasser Al-Saloum, told Saudi newspapers Tuesday the project would link also link north west of the kingdom with the east. Saloum said the study, presented by an international private company and the Saudi Investment Bank proved that the project was financially and economically feasible for the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia is also considering a road tax. If approved the highway connecting central city of Al-Qassim to Medina and Jeddah in western Saudi Arabia would be the first road to be tolled.
The ministry signed 60 contracts with Saudi contractors worth $US373 million for road maintenance throughout the kingdom, Saloum said. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
